Position Description

The City of Tolleson is seeking individuals interested in joining our team as Part-Time Lifeguards. The Lifeguard is responsible for maintaining a safe, welcoming, and positive environment for patrons using City aquatic facilities. This position monitors aquatic activities to ensure patron safety, prevent accidents, and respond quickly and effectively to emergency situations, including performing water rescues, CPR, first aid, and other lifesaving procedures. They enforce pool rules and safety procedures in a courteous and professional manner while providing excellent customer service and information to patrons. Assist with facility operations, including cleaning, equipment setup, basic recordkeeping, and completing accident or incident reports.

 

Qualifications

Previous experience as a lifeguard or in an aquatics, recreation, or customer service environment is preferred but not required. Must have at time of hire an American Red Cross and/or StarGuard Lifeguard Elite certification, Fingerprint Clearance Card, CPR/AED certification, and First Aid certification and pass the required skills test.

 

Knowledge of:

- Recreational programs, equipment, and services

- Safe working practices

- Customer service principles and practices

- Modern office technology

- Basic principles and practices of lifeguarding and aquatic safety

- Water rescue, first aid, CPR/AED, and lifesaving techniques.

 

Skills In:

- Following directions and meeting standards

- Providing customer service

- Critical thinking

- Responding quickly, calmly, and effectively during emergencies

- Monitoring aquatic activities and identifying potentially unsafe situations.

- Performing required physical activities associated with lifeguarding and aquatic rescue

- Utilizing communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interactions with coworkers, supervisors, the general public, and others to sufficiently exchange or convey information and to receive work direction

 

Physical Demands

Positions in this class typically require swimming, standing, sitting, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching, kneeling, crouching, bending, twisting, seeing, hearing, talking, climbing, and balancing.

 

Heavy: Exerting 50-100 lbs. occasionally, 10-25 lbs. frequently, or up to 10-20 lbs. constantly.

 

Work may include prolonged exposure to outdoor weather conditions, direct sunlight, heat and extreme temperatures, pool chemicals, noises, regular exposure to water and wet or slippery surfaces and other environmental conditions. Incumbents may also be exposed to emergency situations, distressed or disruptive individuals, and potentially hazardous or threatening conditions.

Full Salary Range for Position: $18.43 – 25.80
