Police Assistant / Code Compliance Officer

The City of Tolleson is seeking qualified individuals interested in joining our team as a Police Assistant/Code Compliance Officer. This position performs a combination of police support and code compliance duties to promote public safety and compliance with City codes and regulations. Responsibilities include conducting routine investigations and responding to public complaints; identifying code compliance issues and preparing notices of violation; inspecting and re-inspecting properties and alleys for issues such as weed abatement, abandoned vehicles, graffiti, garbage, homeless camps, uncontrolled water flow, dust control, unsafe structures, and business license infractions; monitoring bulk trash compliance; responding to non-emergency police calls where there is no suspect on scene or threat of active violence; taking police reports that do not require follow-up; issuing citations for civil and minor criminal traffic charges; assisting with traffic control and ordinance enforcement; providing evidence collection and crime scene support; providing administrative and booking support; preparing and maintaining reports, files, and applicable databases; providing customer service; testifying in court regarding code violations; and performing related work as assigned.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED and one (1) year of related experience; or an equivalent combination of directly related education and experience. Valid Arizona driver's license required. Bilingual (Spanish) highly preferred.
Note: This position requires rotating shift work, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Physical Requirements/Work Conditions
Positions in this class may require standing, sitting, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, reaching, handling, bending, twisting, climbing, talking, hearing, seeing, and operating foot controls while driving. The position has an overall heavy physical strength classification, which may include exerting 50–100 pounds occasionally, 10–25 pounds frequently, or up to 10–20 pounds constantly.
Work is primarily performed from a vehicle and may involve exposure to varying environmental and physical hazards while conducting inspections or responding to calls. Protective equipment such as safety goggles, ear plugs, boots, or gloves may be required depending on conditions.
Full Salary Range for Position: $29.60—$32.31 Hourly
